The United States is facing a childhood obesity crisis, with 1 in 5 children classified as obese.

Among American Indian youth, the situation is even more alarming—nearly 50% are overweight or obese, making them the most affected ethnic group in the nation. This epidemic fuels skyrocketing rates of diabetes, heart disease, and other life-threatening conditions in Native communities.

At EMPWR Arizona, we believe the solution lies in honoring Indigenous food traditions—nutrient-dense, locally grown, and deeply connected to the land. By promoting Native food systems and sustainable practices, we aim to restore health, dignity, and resilience not just for Indigenous peoples, but for all communities.
